With the evolving employment law landscape, it is more important than ever that Organisations keep up to date. In this session, Derek McKay, Founder and Executive Director, Adare Human Resource Management, who has 25 years of experience working in the HR and employment law arena, will provide updates on the legislative changes for 2022 impacting businesses and provide practical steps for Organisations to take.


In this session, Derek covers key legislative updates, including:

  • The Right to Request Remote Working and the Right to Flexible Working
     - two new key pieces of employment legislation that will significantly impact both Employers and Employees will be discussed and how best Organisations can manage working hours and new ways of working.
  • New Statutory Sick Pay for Employees
     - the introduction of statutory sick pay for all Employees in Ireland, phased in over a four-year period, will come into effect from 1st January 2023. Attendees will be provided with practical steps to ensure compliance with the new legislation.
  • Updated Code of Practice on Sexual Harassment and Harassment at Work
     - the focus on Dignity at Work including anti bullying, harassment and sexual harassment should always remain high on all Organisations agenda. The recent changes to the Code of Practice on Sexual Harassment and Harassment at Work introduces a number of important changes for Organisations to implement into their policies and procedures. 
  • Gender Pay Gap Legislation
     - Organisations with 250+ employees will be the first required to report their data with a deadline of December 2022 under the new legislation with Gender Pay Gap reporting requirements extending to other Organisations with 150+ Employees from 2024 and 50+ Employees from 2025. Attendees will understand what this means for Organisations and practical steps to take.
  • A look forward to 2023
     - exploring what new and also what changes to employment legislation Organisations can expect next year, and hence begin to plan for, will be discussed.

Derek McKay

Derek McKay, BBS, Chartered MCIPD, is an experienced Human Resource and Employment Law practitioner who has worked extensively in the private, not-for-profit and public sectors.

Since founding Adare Human Resource Management in 2003, Derek has overseen the growth of the business to become one of Ireland’s leading HR, Employment Law and Industrial Relations Consultancies. In 2022, Derek changed roles from Managing Director to joining the Board of Directors.

Derek regularly speaks at seminars for companies and associations throughout the country on HR and Employment related topics and contributes to numerous publications in this area also. Prior to setting up Adare Human Resource Management, Derek worked in the Human Resource Departments in a number of multinational organisations.

Derek is currently a member of the CIPD National Committee and a member of Workplace and Skills Taskforce with Chambers Ireland.
