Course Details

Tom Higgins will provide an insight into what is expected from accounting professionals when engaging with the CEA. It will outline the powers of the CEA so the accounting professional are aware to inform their way of work and information to their clients. 


This session will introduce the functions of the Corporate Enforcement Authority,

  • its background,
  • sources of work
  • investigative powers,
  • work of the forensic accountants with the CEA
  • evidence gathering tools and outcomes.

 

Tom will discuss the principle sources of work for Civil, Criminal and Insolvency Supervision directorates which include reports from auditors, examiners, process advisor, liquidators, etc.

 

By attending this session, you will have an understanding of the Powers of the CEA and it will provide an insight into what is expected from accounting professionals when engaging with the CEA.

 

The CEA was established in July 2022 under the Companies (Corporate Enforcement Authority) Act 2021. Its statutory mandate is derived principally from the Companies Act 2014. 

The main audience are Directors, Accounting Professionals and advisors, business owners, auditors.

Tom Higgins

Tom Higgins is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland and former Chairman of the Leinster Society of Chartered Accountants. Tom previously worked in the financial services sector from 1976 to 2016. Initially Tom worked in retail banking with Northern/ National Irish Bank until 2000, followed by a four-year period as one of Heads of Internal Audit with the Irish Life & Permanent Group. In 2004 he joined AccBank/ Rabobank International as the Head of internal Audit for Ireland. In 2009 he was appointed the Head of Internal Audit for Rabobank International North America, based in New York. In 2017 Tom joined the Corporate Enforcement Authority (previously the ODCE) as a Senior Forensic accountant.
