The most recent report from the EU's Cyber security agency, ENISA, showed that Ransomware and Social Engineering are two of the top three cyber threats to EU based organisations. Cyber criminals leverage these to make a considerable amount of money from their victims. This can be through theft of valuable client data in the case of ransomware or taking control of email accounts and initiating payment fraud through social engineering.

Accountants regularly store and manage valuable client data, which is highly prized by the organised criminal gangs. The threats posed by these gangs are constantly evolving, so it is important to keep up-to-date on the current tactics and techniques that are being utilised by them. Better awareness by staff, will reduce the risk of there being any downtime or reputation damage to the practice should they fall victim to something like a phishing email.

In this session Liam covers the following topics;

  • Understanding social engineering
  • Email account takeover protection
  • How conversations (email or texts) get hijacked
  • Payment fraud prevention
  • Resisting ransomware

Liam Lynch

Liam has over 30 years of experience working in IT, originally as a programmer way back in the 80s before moving into networking, infrastructure and security in the 90s. He has worked with people at all levels and has the ability to explain scary technical topics and boring legal subjects in a language that most people can relate to and understand.

Liam founded L2 Cyber Security Solutions in 2016 and it's maxim is #SecuritySimplified. This matches Liam's desire to bring easy to comprehend, cyber security awareness to everyone. Liam specialises in helping micro, small and medium businesses, and charities, as they usually don't have the in-house IT or cyber security support which larger corporates do.

L2 Cyber Security offers up-to-date, fun and easy to follow cyber security awareness training and GDPR awareness training. Since the HSE incident in May 2021, our cyber security assessment service has been very popular. We can also help organisations plan and prepare for the worst with our business resiliency planning.
